  Aerospace Information Management in Europe

Cranfield University is carrying out a study of information management practices and policies within the aerospace community in Europe, on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA). The overall aim of the study is to inform the development of ESA policy in the area of information sharing, exchange and collaboration.

AIM-EU seminar at NLR, March 2002

The research will evaluate the effectiveness of current aerospace information resources in meeting the current and future needs of scientists and engineers in ESA member states. It will also investigate how the dissemination and utilisation of aerospace Scientific & Technical Information (STI) can be enhanced through co-operation, collaboration and exchange.

In order to conduct the research, the study team are using three different methodologies:

  • a questionnaire survey of aerospace science and technology information users
  • interviews with selected policy makers and budget holders within key aerospace organisations
  • four seminars with an invited audience of stakeholders and other interested parties to provide a two-way exchange of views and information
The study is still very much in its data collection phase. Questionnaires are still being returned and interviews are being arranged. An analysis of all the comments and views expressed at the four seminars will also be completed shortly. If you would like to fill out a questionnaire or would like to know more about the project, please visit the AIM-EU project web site.

The final report is due to be delivered to ESA by the end of July 2002. It is hoped to mark the end of the study with a final seminar which will be used to disseminate the results of the study and to highlight recommendations for further work.
